A Beautiful Family’s Life Shattered, Shmulik is Fighting for His Life
The Amar family was like any other hardworking, loving parents raising six beautiful children in Lod, Israel.
Their home was filled with warmth, laughter, and dreams of a bright future.
Their 20-year-old son, Shmulik, had a dream one shared by so many young Bochurim. He longed to learn in Kvutza by the Rebbe, to grow in Torah, to immerse himself in the holy environment he had always yearned for. His parents were overjoyed, proud to support their son’s journey. They never imagined that this dream would lead them into the most devastating nightmare of their lives.
On Shabbos night , their receive a message - A fire!
An uncontrollable, raging inferno had torn through the building in New York where Shmulik was staying. The flames spread violently, thick black smoke suffocating the air.
Shmulik had no way out.
Trapped inside, he screamed for help. He pounded on the walls, gasping for air. His lungs burned. His skin seared. He fought with every ounce of strength he had.
But help arrived too late.
By the time firefighters reached him, he was in cardiac arrest. His body charred, broken.
59% of his body is covered in third-degree burns.
He has lost his skin, He has lost all sensation,
He has lost the ability to move.
Now, he lies in a hospital bed, unconscious, connected to machines that are keeping him alive. Every breath is a struggle. Every moment is a battle.
And his parents broken, shattered, inconsolable sit by his bedside, crying hysterically, afraid for his life.
They haven’t left his side for a moment. Day and night, 24 hours a day, they remain at his bedside, begging Hashem for a miracle. Watching their son like this is unbearable, yet they cannot look away. They cannot leave him. No parent should ever go through a challenge like this.
A Long, Unbearable Journey Ahead
Shmulik’s fight is far from over. This is not a matter of days or weeks—this is a long, grueling journey of survival.
The road ahead is filled with painful surgeries, skin grafts, medical procedures, and constant monitoring. His recovery will take months possibly years. His body will never be the same. His life will never be the same.
And the pain is not just physical.
His parents dropped everything and flew to New York to be by his side because how could they not?
But while their hearts remain with their son, reality is closing in on them.
Back home, the bills are piling up. Rent, utilities, food—nothing has stopped, even though their lives have.
They have no income,
They are drowning, and they cannot do this alone
Shmulik’s 21st birthday is approaching on the 10th of Adar. A milestone that should have been filled with celebration, surrounded by family and friends, filled with joy and Torah learning.
Instead, he will spend his birthday in a hospital .
We cannot stand by and let his parents face this alone. We cannot let financial struggles make this nightmare even worse.
