For nearly eight years, one of the most severe miscarriages of justice has been taking place under the radar in the State of Israel.
Amiram Ben Uliel has been held in prison under the harshest conditions, despite his innocence. Amiram is a victim of a justice system that was desperate to solve the Duma murders to appease foreign pressure. After severe torture and violations of his religious rights, he finally provided a false confession to the murder. This confession is the sole piece of evidence against him and served as the basis of his conviction.
Over the years, more and more holes have been exposed in the prosecution's case and the severe miscarriage of justice has become clearer. As a result, hundreds of rabbis and public figures have joined the fight for justice for Amiram, including at the very least relaxing his prison conditions, which are harsher than those of all Arab terrorists.
The grassroots “Justice for Amiram" campaign is mobilizing warm-hearted Jews - most of whom do not personally know Amiram - to band together and put an end to this saga.
In recent months, the campaign has been working to raise public awareness about the case by distributing materials, holding events at the entrance to the “Eshel" prison where Amiram is held, gathering rabbinic endorsements, and lobbying public officials.
With all of the discussions about reforming the legal system and the prosecution against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, we must not ignore the plight of a single individual whom the entire Justice System decided to cast as a scapegoat, placing him in prison for the rest of his life. The time has come for a fair trial!
