Three years ago, we embarked on a one-way flight from New York to California to establish the inaugural Chabad house in the city of Modesto. Situated in the northern region of California’s Central Valley, Modesto is best known for its idyllic wineries and fertile farmland. From the moment we arrived, we set out to plant the seeds of Jewish life, actively connecting with the local community through an array of programs, services, and Torah classes.
With the Rebbe’s blessings, we have watched our seeds take root and begin to blossom into a beautiful Jewish community. Yet, a plant cannot survive or grow without life-giving water, and our budding community needs its own source of life-giving water to flourish. We need our own Mikvah.
Currently, the closest women’s Mikvah to Modesto is located nearly a two-hour drive north, in Sacramento. This geographical challenge is not unique to Modesto, but also impacts other Chabad house communities, as well as Jewish tourists in Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks.
We already have the space, facilities, and blueprint with approved permits to build a stunning Mikvah on our Chabad house property. We ask you to help us turn our blueprint into reality, providing an easily accessible Mikvah for Jewish people in our community and throughout the Central Valley.
