Can Velo Hasharon Riders is an off-road group combining blind and sighted people on tandem bikes that operates as part of the nonprofit organization Light Ball.

The team was founded in 2013 to open a window into the lives of the blind for a variety of sporting activities. The group consists of about 50 volunteers and over 25 blind and visually-impaired people.

Riding a tandem bike allows the blind people to get outdoors, enjoy social activities, and engage in sports safely. The ride is a joint effort between the blind person who sits and pedals at the back, and the sighted person in front who steers the bike and describes to the blind person the landscape and the route taken by the road, warning of sharp turns and obstacles. The terrain is unexpected and the ride poses challenges for both riders, promoting both physical and mental strength.

In order to continue our activities and hold about 100 rides a year, and to increase the number of blind people in the group to include those whose current physical fitness level is low, we have decided to launch a fundraising campaign for several purposes:

·        To purchase an SUV adapted to tow a trailer carrying 18 pairs of tandem bikes and to transport the blind to and from the rides

·        To purchase three electric tandem bikes to include blind people with low fitness levels in group rides

·        To purchase equipment for maintaining the bikes, for the continued safey of the riders.
