Join Us to Create a Sickle Cell Free Future

The Uganda Sickle Cell Rescue foundation, Ministry of Health, Charidy, CTI Africa, have launched this Sickle Cell Campaign in order to provide a sickle cell free future. We are building an ecosystem that will lead to advanced treatments for patients with sickle cell disease. Your donation will be used to develop a genome registry, research and development and mobile health telemedicine services for sickle cell warriors.

Sickle Cell Disease is when the the red blood cells become hard and sticky the sickle cells die early, which causes a constant shortage of red blood cells. It is inherited when a child has BOTH parents who are carriers. This is where the importance of testing come into effect.

Unfortunately, those with sickle cell are found in some of the more underserved communities in the world. In Uganda SCD is the leading fatally for children under the age of 5. A need for awareness and basic treatment can decrease these numbers in Uganda. The disease is common throughout subSaharan Africa, where health care resources for the disease are limited and many do not know their genetic status. It is sometimes referred to as the “silent disease” because it is underfunded, overlooked, and ignored.

Over time, sickle cell disease can lead to complications such as infections, delayed growth, and episodes of pain. The disease can harm a patient’s spleen, brain, eyes, lungs, liver, heart, kidneys, joints and bones. We have an opportunity to advance treatments for sickle cell warriors in our communities.

We are encouraging you to donate towards the sickle cell campaign for Uganda. To support please visit our donor page at charidy.com/sicklecell.

Your monetary contribution is highly anticipated, but so are your platforms. Help us bring awareness about this campaign by sharing it to your networks on social media, email and other channels. We have attached content to help you pass on the word!

This campaign will need the support of government, private sector, non-profits and individuals each working together fighting for our warriors. We can no longer afford to be a silent about a disease that has the capability to be cured in our modern lifetime.

We are so appreciative of your support and in helping us get closer to ending sickle cell disease.
