If the walls could talk

"She's sitting across from me, shaking, eyes red from crying. I'm holding her hand. She just told me about the abuse she endured at home. About the nights, the touch, the words.

I look at her and I am filled with wonder: where does she find the courage to tell her story, to share what she went through, to trust anyone? How is she here, after all those awful things, believing in us?

"I couldn't breathe anymore, that's why I came here. I had to let go of the weight on my heart. The secrets. But I'm scared to death, I got used to keeping quiet."

ELEM helps more than 12,000 teens a year who are facing violence, poverty, drugs and alcohol, and sexual abuse.

There are thousands of young people in Israel who know they can rely on someone. ELEM has been there for them for 40 years.

We are here for them!

On the streets, in shelters, at youth centers, on social media and online – with a smile, a shoulder to lean on, some who will just listen.

So we can keep helping them this year too, so we can stay out there on the streets for the teens who need us most, so we can be an anchor, so we can offer thousands of youth a warm bed, a hot meal, but – most of all – a hug, we need you.
