My Hospital Room, My Classroom.
A serious diagnosis in childhood changes everything. Overnight, a child's world — once centered around school, friends, and family — shrinks to a hospital room, a bedroom, doctors and nurses.
Kochavim is on a mission to change that.
When treatment schedules prevent medically fragile children from going to school, our Morahs-on-Wheels bring school to them! In homes and hospitals across NYC, young patients count the minutes until their beloved Morahs arrival, where they can forget about the medicine, the nurses, the pain and the nausea. For that short while, they are regular kids, doing regular things - learning parsha, practicing aleph beis, and doing crafts.
They wish she would never leave!
And upon discharge, The Star Learning Center is ready to embrace them. Safe in our warm and cheerful environment, medically fragile children enjoy a school experience where students of all types sing the aleph beis, learn the Parsha, and share Lego blocks and doll carriages. Where every birthday is celebrated — not just as a regular milestone — but as a fervent prayer for many more to come. Where little warriors forget their aches and pain. Where they laugh and play and enjoy arts & crafts and silly songs.
Where little kids get to be just that.
For the rest of the family, whether it's parents trying to juggle the impossible or siblings adjusting to an often difficult reality, Kochavim provides home services and emotional support. With a big sister or brother, a safe Space to hang out after school, and special programs for every age, the days suddenly feel doable. The burden feels easier to carry.
Out-of-state families who need to relocate for treatment? They get embraced by Kochavim’s global team, which doesn’t let go until they are safely on the plane back home. From hosting, school placement, and rides, to child care, hospital services, and fresh meals, Kochavim rolls out the welcome mat when they feel like the floor collapsed beneath their feet.
Kochavim’s mission: No family should face illness alone. And no child should lose their childhood to illness.
